"Having aspirations of becoming a doctor, I knew how important it was for me to devote time to my studies but also service to my community. I developed the goal of becoming a primary care physician as well as the founder of a nonprofit organization with the intent of building healthcare systems in the Caribbean. One of the concerns that I struggled with was knowing that I did not have the resources to start my dreams early. I knew that in order for me to work towards health interventions in the Caribbean, I would need monetary assistance as well as connections from outside of the United States. While these concerns were intense, my dreams were able to turn to a reality by the help of HER for Humanity. It made me realize how much can get done when given the right resources and having a go-getter mindset. My advice to anyone with big dreams is to take advantage of the resources in front of you because you never know how that can positively impact you in the future”.
"I got in touch with HER For Humanity during my senior year of undergrad. I knew I wanted to give back to my home country, but I wasn’t sure how. Thankfully, HER for Humanity helped myself and some other undergrad students on a project. We worked tirelessly over the course of a year to come up with STEAMing Through Summer, a summer camp program to teach the students about the sciences and the arts. I was fortunate enough to experience the summer camp with the students in Haiti last year. Watching the students, professors, and staff come together to have an educational summer while having fun made everything worthwhile. If given the chance again, I would volunteer with HER For Humanity every year just to see the bright smile on the student’s faces!"
